FATHER’S DAY

SCRIPTURE:  1 Timothy 6: 11 – But thou, oh man of God flee these things: and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

A father was preparing to speak on the topic of “What a Good Father Ought to Be” and asked his daughter what she thought. I wonder how we would respond. What would our thoughts be? Well, let me share what the young 5-year-old daughter said as her response:

He would: 1. Catch fish, 2. Build a fire, 3. Fly a Kite, 4. Catch a butterfly, 5. Plant a flower, 6. Get a kitty cat out of the mud.

Notice, this is seen from the eyes of a child. What’s unique about this list? Do you have to buy anything? Not one thing on the list requires you to go shopping. Men, the greatest gift you can give your child is you. Many people work their whole life purchasing things, when all their children really want is a little time with them. What a good Father ought to be.

Let’s consider these three things on this Father’s Day. Father needs to:

1. Be a man of Faith- providing his family a heritage of Christian values. Faith in Jesus Christ and being a true disciple. A family that prays together, stays together.

2. Demonstrate Godly character so your children can see Christ in you. As a result, they also will desire those same traits. We know the story of how the son wants to be like his father. Remember, your daughters learn from you what to expect from a man. You are their role model.

3. Speak words of faith in Jesus Christ. Assume your position as the spiritual head of your family. Be a bold witness for Jesus. Let your talk, match your walk.

What a Good Father ought to be. Remember someone is watching you.
